Dr. Joy Johnson, UBC School of Nursing Professor and CIHR Scientific Director of the Institute for Gender and Health, received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her leading role in improving the health of Canadians by recognizing the critical impact that gender differences can have in medical research. These differences have typically been ignored, causing the potential for health risks and errors. Dr. Johnson promotes more balanced research that takes sex and gender into account in clinical trials.
